Two Belpré Illustrator Honor Books were selected: The Cazuela That the Farm Maiden Stirred, illustrated by Rafael López, written by Samantha R. The Pura Belpré Award for illustration goes to Duncan Tonatiuh for Diego Rivera: His World and Ours, written and illustrated by Duncan Tonatiuh (Abrams). Two Belpré Author Honor Books were named: Hurricane Dancers: The First Caribbean Pirate Shipwreck, written by Margarita Engle (Holt) and Maximilian and the Mystery of the Guardian Angel: A Bilingual Lucha Libre Thriller, written by Xavier Garza (Cinco Puntos). The Pura Belpré Award for writing goes to Guadalupe Garcia McCall for Under the Mesquite (Lee & Low). Ashley Bryan is the winner of the Coretta Scott King-Virginia Hamilton Practitioner Award for Lifetime Achievement. One King Illustrator Honor Book was selected: Heart and Soul: The Story of America and African Americans, written and illustrated by Kadir Nelson (Balzer + Bray).
